The 2013 track and field season is slowly but surely beginning to come to life. Last weekend several Illinois athletes dusted off their spikes in the Lone Star State at the Texas A&M HS Classic.  Senior Aaliyah Brown (Lincoln-Way East HS, Frankfort Ill), who recently committed to Texas A&M, gave her future fans a taste of what is to come by sweeping the girls 60m (7.55) and 200m (24.60).

Brown and several of her Illinois Elite Track Club mates will hit the road one more time before the official IHSA season arrives on January 14.  The scene will be at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville as the Razorback staff will host the prestigious Arkansas High School Invitational.  According to Illinois Elite head coach Angelo Brown, a select few will compete in an array of events on Saturday.  His daughter Aaliyah will contest the 60m and 200m events.  Look for top freshman girls Kayla Hylton (Lincoln-Way North, Frankfort Ill) and Alexis Pierre-Antoine (Lincoln-Way East, Frankfort Ill) to continue to get their feet wet in top high school competition.

Oak Park-River Forest High School will be a very important place for the 50th Annual Track and Field Clinic sponsored by ITCCCA (Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association). The Golden anniversary clinic should draw one of its largest crowds.  The event usually draws over 1000 coaches from around the state will feature various track & field event classes, vendors, and a hall of fame luncheon.
